Remembering the Ghetto Victims
Memorial to the pogrom 90 years later.The events of the pogrom and the events of the ghetto in World War II are linked now in Moldovan history in a kind of layering, that sometimes is characterized as a kind of causal chronology in memorials and exhibits: the Holocaust was the last pogrom, 1903 was the first.
The inscription in Yiddish invites passers-by to remember the victims. “We will bear your memory in pain forever, and you will always be in our hearts.”
The last line, in Aramaic, begins with the opening words of the Kaddish.
Memorial ceremonies are held here on Yom ha-Shoah (Jewish Memorial Day for Holocaust victims) and at other times.
